Threads by Instagram
So if you have been living under a rock the new social media app with over 100 million sign-ups in 5 days is Threads by Instagram. This layout can be all too familiar to us as it takes heavy inspiration from Twitter (yes Elon is not happy about this one bit). I took the day of launch to connect a brand new account using it as a funnel for my existing content. I’ll leave that for another day! Today I will show you how to create your customer Carousel template for Threads.
Canva
Canva is a free-to-use (premium plan also available) graphic design software for anyone to create high-quality designs without any Photoshop knowledge.
So recently carousel post are dominating the Threads platform (I’ll take credit for starting the meta) but how do you create these amazing graphics
Templates
Canva allows you to just drag and drop using existing templates. All you have to do is edit the copy, add images, and change the color to your brand’s palette. It’s the easiest way to get a lot of content out quickly
How To:
Go to Canva and create your free account
Search “Carousel Instagram Post”
Select one that you like
Edit Slides with your content
Save as .png
Upload to threads from your phone
Custom Template
Now there are a few ways you can make a custom carousel template for yourself! As you can see from the screenshot above you can create a blank template and make the squares individually, but what if you want to make them flow differently?
How to Create a Custom Carousel Template for Threads
Using Canva you make a custom design and keep in mind when making a carousel specifically for Instagram the recommended dimensions are 1080x1080. So if you want to make a flowy carousel here is what you do
Select “Custom Size” on the Canva homepage (right of where it says “what will you create today”)
Height always put 1080, but the length depends on how many slides you want. Just multiply the number of slides by 1080 (4 slides 4x1080 = 4320)
You now created your template
Go to File > View Settings > Show Ruler & Guides
Then Add Guides > Custom > Columns ( put the number of slides you plan on creating)
Set the Gap the zero - the only thing that should have values in Columns
Export it to .png
Cut It Up
There are various ways to do it you can crop it from your phone the full image
Photoshop
Self Crop it
Use Crop Apps like No Crop, SquareFit, Instfit, etc
These apps will allow you to slice up your image perfectly to create a seamless carousel.
